Parallel Universes

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 16-12-02 AT 02:46 PM (GMT)]With all this talk of superstitions, ghosts, the occult, and reincarnation, has any one got any views on parallel universes or a fourth dimension??

RE: Parallel Universes

My personal opinion on this subject is, yes I believe there are other dimensions, not just one or two but possibly hundreds.

I originally asked this question to get some feedback as I’m writing a sci-fi novel about two boys who cross various dimensions, and the adventures they have in trying to reach their own world.

RE: Parallel Universes

I don’t understand how.

If our universe is supposedly infinite, so must any others. Two infinities? That’s more than I can take in at the moment!

RE: Parallel Universes

sorry ’bout that.

Extra dimension’s…could this be where people see ghosts, as in a temporal phase shift (I think thats what Geordie calls it !) ?.

It seems quite feasable to me that two ‘races’ could exist in the same place in the same time line but be enough out of sync / phase as to be totally oblivious to each others existance. We tend ot operate and judge things as to how we perceive our own plane of existance, but when you think about it, we aint all that clever or advanced as we would like to think.

BTW, what are the current dimensions ? . I think the fourth dimension is time (probably wrong there as well) but what are the first three ?.

and more to the point, how many more are there ?

Cheers

Gary

you’ve definately had one to many C**lsb*rgs, I was asking about parallel universes as in the fourth or fifth dimensions, different planes of existance, not whether theres other life kicking around the cosmos.

I’m in need of some alcohol myself…..

RE: Parallel Universes

The whole idea of a “universe” is mans attept to fabricate completeness to his existance, a sort of need for a god. Just the same way seafarers said longago that the sea had an end where you fell off and could go no further or astronmers thought that the sky was a shell with stars embedded in it. There is a limit to how far we can see with the most powerfull telescopes we use today. Astronomers somehow would like to imagine we can see the major extent of what we term as the “universe”. But really this is not even a plausable guess. We dont no to what extent of the “universe” we can see, or if what we can see is part of a univese at all.

RE: Parallel Universes

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 16-12-02 AT 05:24 PM (GMT)]Yes, but I’m only visiting….teehee

I firmly beleive that we aint alone out here and somewhere out there is another M3 class planet with a race of sentient beings that have developed in a similar fashion to ourselves, to the extent that they have reached the same technolgical level.

Of course they could be bright pink in colour (Chickladorians to those of you who havent read any of the classic Lensmen series by E E Doc Smith).

There are more than likely countless millions of planets or celestial bodies that are both capable of and are indeed supporting life even in our own Galaxy, let alone all the billions of other Galaxies out there.

I would not be surprised to find many of those ‘races’ far more advanced than we are.

This then brings the question so eloquently put buy First Officer Spock…”Well its life Jim, but not as we know it “. Would we recognise it as life ?. Just cos we are the only known carbon based life form that we know of, doesn’t mean that other life forms have to follow the same set of rules. They could be ethereal, light based, plasma based, what we call thought based…the list is endless.

Now, if only we could get one to join this forum ?

Cheers

Gary

RE: Parallel Universes

I watched a brilliant Horizon documentry on parallel Universes. It really does seem impossible and insane but I think that the theory could hold some truth, although i’m not a Physicist so I can only go on what I have read.
