Don’t worry Saab, there is no harm in a little bit of idealism.
Quite a refreshing change, actually.

RE: Pornography! ! ! !

I think some of my comments have been rather false and ignorant and may of insulted and angered some members. I apologise.
However, I have always considered sex, as a vital part to a relationship although I don’t think it is the most. There are other things such as interests, friendship, or even being nice to one another. But I’ve always thought that sex possessed a pretty big part in a relationship as it helps a person expressed and relate more naturally, deeply and honestly.

I’m basing my argument on opinions rather than fact about a relationship so it’s obviously not necessarily true so again I apologise.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 11-12-02 AT 09:53 PM (GMT)]Mongu,

By “harmless” I mean that it doesn’t really cause too much bother and that not many people are affected by it – it’s legal (please correct me if I’m wrong!), just obscene and people tend to ignore it, therefore, I class it as harmless. 😛

If you’re not interested, you learn to ignore it and get on with life.

Saab,
Not all eating requires hunger. Not all drinking requires thirst. We sometimes just enjoy these biological necessities because they are a pleasure. Please explain me the difference with sex here. As long as it’s a volountary sexual experience two (or more) have together, i don’t see the difference.

RE: Pornography! ! ! !

saab- I dont agree that there is an obligation to love in the marriage type of commitment when having sex. Love is something that has to be earned, when woman say “Im only wanted for my body and not my mind”, how self centered this is. I mean, Id sure like for people to want me for my mind, but I dont expect to obligate people people morally to feel this for me. Do you “love” me for my mind? Should you have to “love” a woman because your having sex with her, but not have the same obligation to “love” a man because your not having sex with him? I think its great that you only want to have sex with a woman whom your in a life long commitment with, but if others have sex simply in a freind relationship for pleasurable attraction, you have no right to debase this as “unfeeling”, “unloving”, “dehumanizing”. There are some people who cant handle this lifesyle and will indeed injure themselves by trying to get involved sexually outside of marriage, but this is a psychological orientation that doesnt apply to all.

RE: Pornography! ! ! !

I don’t agree Saab.

Frankly if a marriage is as weak as you describe, then porn is more of a straw breaking the camel’s back rather than the actual problem?

Besides, having sex is entirely different from making love.

RE: Pornography! ! ! !

Mongu, yes I have taken the moral perspective since I believe that sexual intercourse is an emotional occasion, which should incur love, laughter and obviously fun, not an occasion where a woman is seen as an object where their thoughts and bodies are not considered.

How does porn break up marriages?
Pornography makes a mockery of human interactions by eliminating love, laughter and all other emotions that go with it, and reducing them to the crudely sexual. Sex is an obvious important factor in relationships and by viewing Pornography a person removes, In the worst cases, any the above elements. This puts strains on marriages and tragically can end up in a break up.
Pornography also debases the human body, and exploits it. It also encourages unhealthy, objectifying attitudes towards the opposite sex and again can end up in the break up of relationships. From this it is naive to suppose that pornography is a victimless crime. I think all Pornography can do this whether it be via the internet for hardcore or fetish or as you say, from a magazine on the top shelf of WHS.

RE: Pornography! ! ! !

Pornography….brilliant….just wish I had a pornograph to play it on ! Teehee.

Seriously…okay maybe not…it takes all sorts.

History is full of it.

As Adam said to Eve “stand back…I dont know how big this is gonna get !”

And Confucious said “Man born of Woman spend rest of life trying to get back in”.

Its been in the back of everyones mind. Certainly the Internet has helped it along somewhat. After all its not very hard (shouldn’t say that really) to access it, is it ?.

Personally, it doesn’t faze me but I do understand and respect those that find the whole thing abhorent.

Cheers

Gary

RE: Pornography! ! ! !

As long as it isn’t child related and as simple as a man or a woman enjoying what can be harmless images (I’m not saying they are totally harmless), then what’s to worry about?

It’s more offensive than it is harmless, hence the fact that many forums and websites (including this one) ban it which I think is acceptable.

I myself am not someone since being connected to the Internet who has even contemplated viewing a pornagraphic website.

RE: Pornography! ! ! !

Saab,

You’ve taken a rather puritanical viewpoint.

How does porn break up marriages? Do you think it depepends what type of porn – I mean, hardcore or fetish stuff, or the things you see on the top shelf of WH Smith?

RE: Pornography! ! ! !

Personally I find it quite irrelevant. Sometimes I look, sometimes I don’t. I can enjoy it, or ignore it. It is there, and I find its existence acceptable (note I am not talking about Child porn / bestiality, but anything else is fine by me). It can help in a relationship, or hinder, but so can many things – sexual or not. I do, however, resent intrusion with spam email, and this is often porn – but its the spamming I hate.

RE: Pornography! ! ! !

Absolutely agree Mixtec. Porn gives indeed a distorted view on sexuality, but that is simply what the entertainment industry does. Any liquor commercial will give you a distorted view on alcoholism, any episode of the A team will give you a distorted view on violence, any show of Oprah gives a distorted view on human psychology, any issue of Quote will give you a distorted view on economy, etcetera etcetera etcetera. Porn, from the consumer’s side, is (sexual) entertainment and nothing more or less vile or depraved than that.

I always find it disturbing when people think they should take the moral high ground on issues concerning sex, but disregard other facets of human life in which similar (yet not so focused on primary desires) sociological phenomena occur.

RE: Pornography! ! ! !

Saab- Porn can do harm to people, its true, but these are things people will deal with anyway. Were bombarded with sex costantly by sex in the media, and womans groups actually try to protect womens rights to dress provacatively as “healthy”. I think this pickaboo procupation with sex that you see on tv is alot more distorted than porn. I think alot of people are really let down for example by trying to emulate a James Bond character and really dont know how to handle the reality that the commercialized idea of sex elludes too. They are not able to deal with “how to act” when it comes to porn.

RE: Pornography! ! ! !

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 10-12-02 AT 07:28 PM (GMT)]Pornography is harmful in many ways, including damage to marriage relationships, loss of childhood innocence, addiction to it and the shaping of negative attitudes towards all the sexes.
In the worst cases, such attitudes can progress to the conduction of these actions in a illegal form all based on pornography’s distorted view of sexuality. On the basis of this,in my opinion pornography should be placed under strict controls.
Others opinions will obviously differ…
