It usually works when I add it to my user profile but always reverts to a box with a cross in it very soon.
Any ideas?
The image is 48×48 pixels (as reccomended) and 1613 bytes in size and is a GIF.
The forum won’t allow me to post a link (it produces a small box with a cross in it)

It might not work because you´ve put it on a Geocities server. Those sometimes don´t like it if you link to an image on that – but you won´t know when you´re putting your avatar in your profile as the image is likely to be in your cache anyway.
