Best single of all time

What with all these posts about music and charts and stuff, have you had the all time best single where you live ?.

Out here in BFBS land (British Forces Broadcasting services) they’ve just had a thing on Thurdsday about the all time best song ever written. apparently Queen, Bohemian Raphsody is it.

Personally, I reckon Lynard skynard’s Freebird is better…brilliant guitar, a absolute stomping drum set that if you are driving at the time, you cant help but put your foot down, great lyrics and it last’s for a decent length of time. Don’t get me wrong, I aint slagging off Queen (I have lots of their stuff, and listen to it regularly) I just reckon Freebird is better.

Now I’m gonna get shot down ! (and I’m giving my age away here…I also like Whole Lotta Rosie, Black Betty, Spirit of Radio, Immigrant Song)

What do you guitar officionado’s reckon ?

cheers

An ageing headbanger

Gary

How do you define “best” as in personal choice or in terms of commercial succsess?

RE: Best single of all time

Well if you really must know, and this is coming from the record companies lists of greatest success of all time.

The best ever single which has also cause records and CD’s to be bought only for this song is: “Drum Roll”

Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”

RE: Best single of all time

Its a tough one to decide on for sure! I watched a program last night on Channel 4 about the top selling 100 records in the UK over the last 50 years, and Elton John got the top spot with his 1997 redition of Candle in the Wind, sung at Diana Princess of Wales funeral.

RE: Best single of all time

Gary
Lynyrd Skynyrds best one was “Sweet Home Alabama” , superb riff!

Just been watching on TV “The top 10 singles ever in UK”

Candle in the wind(the one dedicated to Princess Diana) came out on top , only on sales I’m glad to say……’scuse me just gonna throw up

…..Ah thats better! , now where were we?

I cant pin one single down as the best ‘cos there’s so many , and my taste in music is so diverse, so really this only carries on from the thread we had on top ten favourite songs.
