Russian FAEs (thermobaric weapons)… AGAIN

On a different thread about airdropped FAEs, GarryB wrote this:

“The TOS-1 is a custom designed weapon for the purpose of clearing enemy troop concentrations or strong points. It has the added benefit of emptying trenches of live things as well.
It is basically a large 30 shot launcher mounted on a standard T-72 chassis. The rockets, though large and quite powerful have a maximum range of 3.5km, so it is rather like the WWII infantry support vehicles that used artillery in a direct fire support role.”

I’m interested in learning more about the TOS-1. Anyone got any pics? Sounds like a useful bit of kit, have any been exported? Where to?

Thanks in advance guys.

TOS-1 (or Buratino to the Russians) was ludicrously effective in Chechnya, especially when they fired on Groznyy }>

Heres a better picture, from said operation in Chechnya.

No bites?

The caption to the picture said this particular Bizon was in 7.62 x 25mm calibre and that the mag held 40 rounds.
The AK-74 depicted is using the new 60 round double stack magazines…

RE: Russian FAEs (thermobaric weapons)… AGAIN

Used in Chechnia…
I have not heard any reports on its effectiveness one way or the other.
I have got the sales pitch somewhere… in .pdf format… I’ll have a look for it.

It is certainly available for export though I haven’t heard or any customers for it.

BTW I thought you might be interested in this… it is not an FAE system… it uses the same 30mm high pressure rounds the Plamya grenade launcher uses.
(Calibre 30mm, 10 round drum mag capacity, 1,700m max range… due to the fact that the grenades are for area targets can be used out to ballistic range…)
(The first image is the Arbalet 30mm grenade launcher.
The second image is a test… which weapon… AK-74 or Bizon has the highest magazine capacity? …note this is a trick question…)
