I would like to see which songs could represent your country. Our which songs became a hit outside your country. For Germany, no doubt, Rammstein will be their main export product, but maybe also older songs.

The only two songs which ever made it to be international hits. In fact, technotronic was the pioneer of a new generation of music, the house, which started in Belgium. The late 80’s, technotronic also invented the smiley (:-)) which then, was a very popular sign.

Austria? Uh-oh…
Die erste allgemeine Verunsicherung’s song Banküberfall was pretty terrible (ich habe zeit wochen kein Schnitzel mehr im Bauch…), but all hell broke loose when they discovered housy beats. Some terrible stuff has come from that friendly-little-country-in-the-mountains… DJ Otzi was pretty bad, but what about Edelweiss and that terrible ‘Ready for Radetzky’-collection of Sissi-quotes, burps, scratches and the ever so corny Radetzky-march?

Brazil
Most probably samba’s and bossa nova’s singers must being the most known Brazilian artists in foreign countries. But there is also a lot of respect to Brazilian metal bands, specially Sepultura, Angra and Soulfly. Today´s top parade hits is consisted meanly by Britney Spears´s Brazilian clones :), some pop-rock bands and a bit of melodic (spelling?) hardcore.

Seriously, you all forgot about K’s Choice, that’s a great Belgian band, that’s also known abroad (even US).
P.S. Arthur, Another Dutch band was also popular abroad. You forgot about Vandenberg, they had 1 or 2 hits.
Also, does Van Halen count as a Dutch band?? 🙂 🙂 Half-Dutch anyway, LOL.

I live in Mexico (Though Im not Mexican, yet)and I listen to alot of Spanish Rock, so theres this group from Spain called “Heroes Del Silencio” (Heroes of the Silence, not a good name for a rock band)who are a great 80s band for those who think theyve already heard all the great 80s music. There best known song is “Entre dos Tierras” (between two lands), you might want to nab it on napster or something and give it a listen. The group is broke up now, but Enrique Bunbury (Enrique Ortiz de Landazuri, dont ask me why he picked the name Bunbury) is still popular now as a sort of european lounge singer, you know, those caberet types that sing in that slow moaning way.

Oh, Geforce, i really hate you for this. Dammit… You know, with a few friends of mine i have this very nice game of sending each other sms’es with lyrics of songs just to get them in the other guy’s head. Of course it’s more fun to terrorise your colleagues at work by humming a certain song during the morning, and in the afternoon find out that everyone was humming that.
On a sidenote: we’re going to ibiza…
Sorry i forgot about the Vengaboys, i already banned them from my head. Actually saw them live once… the dark girl is all hips with nothing to compensate on her upper body, in case anyone cares. The other girl is nice though.

What about Rocco Granata? He scored pretty well, and i honestly don’t know Lena (sounds terrible IMHO). Other bands you are forgetting are 2Unlimited (okay, the front-people were Dutch but it was a Belgian producers duo), Front242 (yeah!), Sandra Kim (of course!), Jacques Brel… There are definately more (no, not K3 nor the M Kids)

Tend to disagree. House began in Detroit, the Belgians only made it commercial (and not with Technotronic, but with the how-can-we-forget-them-no-matter-how-much-we’d-love-to Confetti’s!)

Actually, the smiley was dug up again, it was also very populair in the late 1970s. It was of course invented by Forrest Gump (who actually is a prototype-Belgian 😀 )
But, to follow your nice example here are a few of the reasons why the Dutch should be hated worldwide:
– Pops Abrahams and the Smurfs (Waar komen jullie toch vandaan…)
– George Baker Selection (Little Green Bag, Una Paloma Blanca)
– Shocking Blue (Venus)
– Golden Earring (Radar Love, Twilight Zone…)
– Gerard Joling (very populair in Thailand for some reason)
– De Electronica’s (de Vogeltjesdans/Bird Dance, for this i think we honestly deserve the big one)
