Newcastle 4th and 5th October

Hi all,

Was out at Newcastle last week, below are a selection of shots. I’m after a little feedback if you have some time, please – I’ve recently started using a new monitor and would like to know how these shots are looking? Until recently I was using a nice CRT which I found absolutely fantastic for photography work, whereas now I’m using a Apple flatscreen LCD monitor (equally nice!).

As smart as it is, it’s taking some getting used to and I’d appreciate your thoughts as to how these shots look. Colour? Contrast? Sharpness? There are handful more shots at http://www.adamrowden.co.uk also.

Cheers and many thanks,
Adam

Depends On how you want the shot really I think its a great shot with the plane in the middle and the Runway in the centre , Runway lights in the foreground and some House and Industry estate in the background. Do they have problems with the Pylons at all?

Great shots there aswel Like the KLM F70 and G-THOO 😎

I think this shot is lost as even though the jet has just touched the runway creating tyre smoke it is a little far away. Personally I think if the aircraft was just over the threshold of the runway it may have been better, again prefrences.

With all the shots, they seem slightly over-sharpenend..just a touch, editing on quality screens like LCD or HD makes it harder to judge,i’ve noticed this myself with my laptop, the photos look too sharp when viewed on a regular TFT monitor, just one of those things i guess.

NCL takes allot of patence to find a good spot may i reccommend you PM, Brittania,XBOY,Newcastle and Tartan pics for help with Spotting locations Si, i work there but have no idea of spotting points for Civvys. I do though know the best points for spotting in the terminal.

Adam,
I am by no means an expert and peolpe will have different ideas on what makes a good shot but heres my humble opinion based on my own preferences.

1st shot…I love, the light shows the detail on the aircraft well and it is a slightly unusual angle.

2nd..Again, I love this shot, with the crisp detail of the jet and angle although it is a little blue, this could be altered by decreasing the blue hue.

3…Great angle showing the size of the jet but a little dark.

4…Not enough of the jet in the shot.

5…Could do with being a little sharper.

6…Great shot, if you had a little lower shutter speed you could have defined the N1 blades in the engines.

7…As 6.

8…I think this shot is lost as even though the jet has just touched the runway creating tyre smoke it is a little far away. Personally I think if the aircraft was just over the threshold of the runway it may have been better, again prefrences.

Adam, some people may disagree with my thoughts, it depends on what you think constitues a good photograph. Hope I have helped in some way. By the way I am up in Newcastle for the day in early November, I will PM you and maybe if you are free we can meet up and you can show me the sopts to go to.

All the best

Si
