If you guys remember in the beginning of my ‘career’ at AFM, I had asked for any substitute paints to apply to models as regular modelling paints are a bit hard to come by in India. Well, I have been doing some experimenting in the last few weeks and am glad to say that I find fabric paints are a great/ cheap substitute to regular modelling paints.
I experimented on a P-47 1:72 scale model and the results were not bad at all. The drying up process is not too long and neither does the paint leave a sticky residue. However, if you scartch the paint with your nail deliberately it may come off in a mouldy / flaky fashion, which may not be a bad thing, in case you want to rectify a mistake. The paints just cost Rs. 13 ( 25 cents) a bottle and happily you get all colours.
Just wanted to share this information to people who might have similar problems as me or wanted a cheaper substitute.
cheers,
sq
