I have to go to Barcelona from Gothenburg soon (departing on a Thursday and returning the following Monday) and would very much appreciate any tips on routing and airlines, I have an idea that it might be better to travel via Copenhagen, which is easy and cheap for me to reach by train. Any thoughts?

That’d do rather nicely – if you’re not in a hurry, but what’s the rush, huh?
Can you imagine the look on the check-in agent’s face though? :p
They gave me enough funny looks when I checked in for LHR-JFK-LAX-HNL. They seemed to think most sane people would fly straight to LA from London.

Duessldwarf dont worry. I wouldnt risk connecting with Ryanair or any other low fare carrier for that matter through any airport. Ive used IB for connections and missed them and cant imagine what would have happened if it had been Ryanair.
I may like Ryanair but Im not stupid. 😀

If you wanted some real fun you could do:
GOT-CPH SAS MD80
CPH-FRA SAS MD80
FRA-BCN Lufthansa A319
returning:
BCN-FRA Lufthansa A319
FRA-CPH SAS A321
CPH-GOT SAS MD90
That costs about £219 :p

Thank you very much, it seems I will have to check out charters as well! They are in the daily papers here. I have used Ryanair many times and agree that it is best avoided if possible! I would never trust them if I had an onward connection at Gatwick or Heathrow same day, although I have done it before with an overnight stay at Gatwick when flying to the USA.
Where is MXP?
Otherwise the Air France option seems the best, from Landvetter.
Soory to clog up the Forum with all this, but I find googling among the airline sites a nightmare!

One option that may appear to be cheap (I haven’t looked – but it’s irrelevant) avoid Ryanair and a connection at STN. Not worth the hassle in my opinion. If you must be there at a specific time, then this would not be the safest option, in my same opinion.

The cheapest direct is SAS at $352.00.
Alitalia now seem to be the cheapest CHH-MXP-BCN at $244.00. Quite a difference.
Cheapest from Gothenburg is Air France via Paris $373.00.
Direct CPH-BCN is going to cost you it seems.

Thanks, Shamrock, I was thinking there may be a direct route from Copenhagen to Barcelona. Lots of lovely planes to photograph at Copenhagen, too!
The outward date is May 26, return May 30.

The cheapest I can find for 21 APR-25 APR is SN Brussels via Brussels but that costs 3,050 SEK. If you can give us specific dates that would be helpful.
