Birmingham 15/9/2007 – a beginner!

As i’m starting my degree in Aviation Management next week, thought i’d better go to an airport and beef up my (previously non-existent) knowledge of civil aircraft types, airlines etc, so bought a few civilian aircraft magazines this week and decided to take a break from packing and go to an airport. Started off at East Midlands Aeropark as it’s closest to me, but that was closed off for the day unannounced, presumably for some corporate day thing, plus you couldn’t see anything from the airport terminal, so went over to Birmingham where they have a fantastic viewing gallery. Here’s some photos anyway, might need a bit of a hand id-ing some of them! Not fantastic photos, they were taken on full zoom through glass

Fokker 100?

Had a good day anyway, and picked up a rather nice Skymarks model of an Airbus A320. Looking forward to a bit of civvie plane spotting again, years and years ago (probably around 1997) I remember going to a viewing gallery on at Heathrow, on the top of a building so open air, and it had a rather good shop, is this still there?

Cheers, Rob

I’m doing my degree at London Metropolitan University, really looking forward to it and hopefully will get me a job in the aviation industry (only been into airliners for a week now and already fascinated)

Nice photos Rob. 🙂

I’m starting a degree in Aviation Management next week at the Aviation Academy in Leeds, which runs the course in conjunction with London Metropolitan University.

Wrong its an Embraer 195 ;)….

Peter was right first time, James. 😎

According to G-INFO (the official CAA register query site) it’s an Embraer 190-200 LR. :p

…The viewing gallery at Heathrow has been closed. The aviation store I think is now gone. If I am not mistaken they tried to continue for a while at the visitors center, but without much luck?….

The aviation shop at Heathrow is still going strong and is currently housed in part of the Heathrow Academy (formerly known as the Visitor Centre).

The entrance is on the left-hand side of the building.

Ahah, cheers! Thought it was an Airbus at first, but when I uploaded the photos kind of thought it was a 757. Shame about Heathrow, will have to try and find another viewing gallery at a London airport (unless they’ve all gone too).
