Nice shots, the colours are little off, one thing i notice from using my 400D and Nikon D200 is 400D tends to produce photos that have more blue and green felling to them, but easily fixable in photoshop.

Interesting, I’ve actually noticed the opposite! I own the 350D and 30D, but I’ve spent a lot of time shooting with the D1x and D2x and always felt the Nikons produce an ever so slight green tint not present on Canons. Ah well, as you say it’s easily sorted, especially if shooting RAW.

About a 10 second edit.

Before

That’s actually just made it more overexposed, mate! The cloud detail has almost completely disappeared and the top of the fuselage can’t be made out too well against the sky. A quick check of the luminosity histogram can work wonders!

The problem with that shot is the aircraft is slightly backlit, in which case cranking up the levels will just lose so much detail from the highlights.

This is about as balanced an exposure as I think you’ll get from that image:

Nice work, Matt, but the settings you need to change on your camera will take literally 10 seconds. Make sure your exposure compensation is set to Zero (on the 350D do this by pressing the button to the right of the LCD screen marked Av, holding it down and moving the jog wheel on top until the line on the light meter is in the middle of the scale), and set your white balance to Auto. You should immediately notice the contrast and colour balance improve.

Hope that helps!

Great shots Matt!

The woven Concorde is made of willow, and is the result of a commission by the airport to highlight its conservation work and to promote the new Runway 2 trail. The concorde was woven by the Rossendale Environmental Arts Trust.
