Here's something you don't see every day

http://www.airliners.net/open.file/805552/L/

A 747 SP, still going strong.

And I’m certain it has been re-engined. I can’t find any evidence of 747SPs ever being delivered with Rolls Royce RB211 engines. A surprising photo for me!

So what price are you assuming for fuel/leasing/etc? You can’t run an aircraft on such basic assumptions.

“bob” didn’t go into that.
He just told me the above example.

He did say that a lot of operators used the 747SP as an element of prestige. But that in the practical world of today, airlines like Syrian are turning a profit on their 747SP flights.

Trust me, with a 707, 727 and a DC-9 currently under his management he knows his stuff.

further to a little asking around “bob” has been able to assertain that the profitability of the 747SP is down to what routes it was sent on and its capacity.

Here is a rough chart of its range:
331 passengers and baggage 10,840km (5855nm),
276 passengers 12,325km (6650nm),
ferry range with max fuel and 13,610kg (30,000lb) payload 15,400km (8315nm).

Anything above 250 pax on a 5K nm mission is breakeven. Give or take.

He’s not sure of the higher range break even

Why do you try and turn this into something it isn’t??? It actually came from a former Saudia 747SP management pilot. I thought we had all moved on a stage but obviously you want to drag the forum backwards again.

Not at all. and I resent the implication.
