Sunrise at 36,000ft

Yesterday, I took a short trip to Hahn on Ryanair. Flew out at 7am on EI-DCZ, and home at 4pm on EI-CST. It was my first flight of the year, had hoped to do some photography in Hahn. However, the weather was terrible and I couldn’t even be bothered to stand outside in the -3C temperature (without mentioning the bitter wind chill!). I went to the top of the car park for about 10 minutes and caught the Atlas Air, but that was all I could resist. You can tell that it would be a good photography location, if the Sun was out. There were several interesting movements, including an Aeroflot Cargo DC-10, Omni Air International DC-10 and some An-12. I might have to consider a trip there some other time…maybe in the Summer.

But here’s really what this thread is for….just at the top of our ascent outbound we were greeted by the most brilliant Sunrise. If anything made the day, it was most certainly this…

Here are the first signs of Sunrise.

And then it appeared..

Look at this one, and try telling yourself that it isn’t molten lava but infact the top of clouds.

The colours soon came bursting through

Atlas Air departing at HHN, this spot could be excellent in the Sun. It was the top floor of the terminal car park.

And the Ryanair pier at STN

Cheers for watching.

Thanks everyone for all your kind comments! It certainly did make up for a rather poor day.

Next trip is in a week, to ACE via MAD and TFN (including a ride on an IB A340! 😀 ) so hopefully I’ll bring back a few photos from those journeys.

Wonderful shots! 🙂
