hey
myself and uni friends headed up to Manchester for a day of photography, main reason really was that two of the ‘gang’ were taking part in Mans bi-annual emergency exercise on the ‘big rig’, so we decided to make the trip into one big adventure.
alarm was set for 4:10 am 😮 . Arrived in Manchester at 10. headed over to 24L line ups, and then when the runway closed we headed to the car parks.
we then spent the next 12 hours 😮 at the car parks, moving backwards and forwards into the terminals for warmth and food every so often. the big rig exercise finished at about 10pm, and we didnt leave the airport until 3:45 am, arrived back at home at 7am this morning, and practically collapsed.
we had spent near on 18 hours at the airport, and i went 26 hours without sleep. 😮
here are the first lot, night shots to follow later. 😀

great shots there adam im heading there next may is the viewing park hard to get to from the main terminal building
I didnt go to the viewing park, becuase my shots would have been backlit. But aviation viewing park is easy to get to. You need to take a bus (i think its the 19) from the airport station to the world cargo centre, and then its a ten minute walk, following the signs. I’m not sure if the AVP has a car park.
To get to where i went, we got a taxi from the station, dropping us off outside the Moat House Hotel (Holiday Inn), and then its a 10 minute walk to the mounds.
here are some more night shots

thanks! 🙂

Have to add my comments also. Great shots, especially the night ones.
Great to see you using a C765 to near its max potential. Great shots for a non DSLR. Gives me more hope! 🙂

Great shots – love the night photography
What camera settings did you use, I personally use F22 to give maximum depth of field and do a test for the exposuretime, usually between 1-2 mins
I would be interested in knowing your settings ISO etc…
MTIA
I have an Olympus C765UZ, quite old now. My settings for night photography are F8, ISO 64, the exposure length depends on what i want, and can vary from 1 sec to 15 sec (the max that the camera can do), and i use a tungsten white balance. I would occasionally experiment with F7.1.

So, what do you think of MAN from a photographer’s point of view? 🙂
BEST airport EVER. It beats any airport that ive ever been to. a) the airports cool attitude towards us b) the viewing possibilities.
The airport generally is the nicest Ive ever been to. I love the futuristic design. Oh, and I love the ‘blueness’.

The airport authority would do well to provide better weather, though. :diablo: 😀
