Capital airline’s cruising as rivals struggle
http://business.scotsman.com/index.cfm?id=293632005
Basically, first B738 has been delayed so GLA may initially suffer for the first few days. B736 seem to be heading for EDI, atleast that’s the way I read it, along with a new route to be announced ‘in May’ (I wonder where?). Also hints at expansion from ABZ and England.
Mr Dalrymple also sounds particularly excited about the B7E7s. 😉 But with an in-service date of 2011 now?
I am so glad that Scotland can benefit from such an airline, and I can’t wait to see what the future will bring! 😀

The Scotsman article refers to blended winglets on the 737-800s; these aren’t fitted to the first a/c though..?

All the Ryanair routs to Italy from Glasgow PIK are highly successful.

Italy seems to struggle from LBA as well, the Milan Bergamo flight of last year was the only one dropped by Jet2, and the Venice route is the only route that is not daily this summer. Strange….

Italy always seems to struggle abit. Not sure why. EDI-MXP was one of the worst performing routes for Duo from EDI, Venice has been dropped from EDI and Rome what sounds to be their worst performing route from EDI. However, to achieve 96% loads across the board for last summer I don’t think they can any route that could be classed as doing poorly?!

Ok, just thought about it actually. Perhas the 736s will be used to increase frequencies on some routes, so ignore my point above
absolutely not. It may prove to be correct. Opinions are opinions 🙂

Mr. Dalrymple didn’t seem to happy about the Rome route, if I remember the article correctly he was delighted with the BCN flights but couldn’t believe that people wouldn’t pay a little extra to fly to Rome. Feel free to correct me. Hopefully no routes have to be downgraded or scrapped.
They had FANTASTIC loads on GLA-Rome but they droped the route because it was not making profit because of Ryanair at PIK, maybe pax from EDI are using the Glasgow Prestwick service instead? Or they are having to keep prices lower than others so to fill these flights but are not making a profit?

With 2 736s heading for EDI as you say, and only 1 new route, that would mean some routes being downgraded from EDI, perhaps things arent all rosy at EDI? However, I cant read the article just now due to the site being down

I’ve heard they are averaging a 96% load factor over their entire network at the moment…jaw dropping!
Absolutely!

or more likely streamlining the operation?
My Ramp Rat friend tells me he hasn’t seen an empty GSM flight coming in or out of EDI
