A380 maiden flight set for April
Aimee Turner, London (03Mar05, 14:56 GMT, 125 words)
Airbus’ plans for the maiden flight of its A380 have slipped into April as Rainer Hertrich, co-chief of the European aircraft manufacturer’s aerospace parent EADS, confirmed first flight will take place next month.
The manufacturer has consistently declined to specify precisely when the A380 will take to the air. It has been aiming for first flight around the end of March, but has acknowledged it could slip into April.
A spokesman for EADS confirms that Hertrich, speaking at a “Managementkolloquium” at Munich University, told delegates first flight will take place in April – although he failed to give any specific date.
He also “strongly” denied recent media reports that there were problems with the aircraft. “Everything is on track for the first flight,” he said.

Much sooner than I had thought.
Am I just imagining things or is the A380 due to fly at the Paris Air Show this year?
I have read that the A380 is scheduled to make its first public appearance in Paris. I wish I could be there to see this behemoth in person but I am not scheduled to be in Europe until December. For those who will be attending the Paris airshow this year, have fun!

I would rather they got it right, before they took the mamoth into the air 😛
I’m sure the good people of Toulouse agree whole heartedly with this statement 🙂

Lets face it, there aren’t that many aircraft which take off on time for their first flights….

To be honest, he’s not gonna put his hands up and admit there are any issues is he?
No one in their right mind would. The fact that the first flight may be delayed untill April is indicative of some sort of issue. But that could be anything, from logisitics problems to the Airport being too busy or heck, bad weather forecasts.
I’m still not convinced that it is among the latter reasons. They admitted it was overweigh for example, and that the weight could be dealt with by increasing the MTOW, but I haven’t seen a conclusion to that issue completely, so how many other issues may be outstanding that we don’t know the outcome of??
