Top 3 airlines according to Holiday Which..

Jet2 voted 3rd best airline for service by Holiday Which!

1st Singapore Airlines
2nd Palmair (BOH based)
3rd Jet2

OTHER bigger airlines may claim to be the world’s favourite and take more care of you, but Bournemouth-based Palmair really is and does.

Despite being knocked off its number one perch by Singapore Airlines, the Palmair subsidiary of the Bath Travel empire is still flying high in the annual passenger poll conducted by Holiday Which?

With just two aircraft taking around 70,000 passengers a year to a dozen destinations from the Canaries to Corfu, Palmair was voted second favourite in the Consumer Association’s bi-annual airline satisfaction survey.

And with Jet2, the budget airline arm of Channel Express, which will be launching a Belfast service from Hurn later this month, placed third in the poll, Bournemouth can claim two of the top three smoothest operators.

Nearly 20,000 passengers were canvassed for their thoughts on a range of comfort criteria from checking in to cabin cleanliness, in-flight service and meals.

The Holiday Which? report enthused: “Pocket dynamo Palmair continues to punch above its weight. Once up in the air, cabin crew on Singapore and Palmair were in a class of their own,” added the report, which also found that only Air New Zealand gave more leg room to its passengers than Palmair.

Company chairman Peter Bath, whose personal meeting and greeting of passengers boarding at Bournemouth has long been a Palmair trademark, said the Holiday Which? results showed small was beautiful when it came to giving friendly service.

“Once you get to be number one you can’t go any higher, but we are very pleased to get second,” said Mr Bath.

Ian Doubtfire, managing director of Jet2 said: “We treat our passengers well, have smart cabin crew and leather interiors.

“We’ll be flying on time every day with low fares when our Belfast service launches.”

Its amazing that out of all the airlines in the world, Palmair and Jet2 can get in the top three, hats off to them 🙂

They only survey a small number of people who fly. Its not realy a comprehensive survey.

The Consumer’s Association (publishers of Holiday Which? magazine) sent out 60,000 survey forms of which 26,972 were returned. Discounting business travellers and travel trade employees, they used 19,738 replies to compile their results. Airlines mentioned by less than 30 respondents were ignored.

I would suggest that the results are a pretty accurate survey, especially for the major airlines with large sample sizes…eg BA with 3166 responses is firmly mid-table. Palmair only has 55 responses, but I guess they would not have been included unless statistically significant (and they must be doing something correct, as they are always near the top of this bi-annual survey).

What is interesting in the result, is that the low-cost infants of major airlines score better results than the parent…..Bmibaby/Thomsonfly/MyTraveLite all are more highly rated than BMI/Britannia/MyTravel.

Er no i wouldnt. Just because your a BA fan doesnt mean the rest of us are!

Very true!
I’m afraid, on all occations with BA, i’ve had very poor service. I’m sure by now its much better, but those 6 flights made my family sware never to fly BA again.
Good to see Jet2 there, very good run operation in my eyes!

I’m not convinced by this at all. Let’s face it, if you were going away and had to choose between Palmair and British Airways, realistically, who would you choose? British Airways of course, because they are a far superior airline.

But thanks for telling us our opinion anyway (or at least trying)

Which are a bit naive when it comes to aviation matters.
They only survey a small number of people who fly. Its not realy a comprehensive survey.
A bit like Bransons “pax prefer 4 engines” survey 😉

Mind you, I’ve read about Palmair from several sources. They seem to be well liked. The CEO used to bid farewell to each flight from their base, personaly.

The Palmair B732’s have had a row of seats taken out making them 126 seaters,so the seat pitch is greater than 29″(not sure what it is though?). I flew with Palmair many times when they were useing the Flightline 146’s & the cabin service was very good.

I’ve got to say that I doubt the credability of this survey. Can’t really explain why other than I can only assume that they conducted the survey onboard Palmair and Jet 2 flights?? :diablo: I mean, if Palmair are BOH based and Jet 2 BFS and LBA based, why on earth would the majority of the people surveyed vote for such regional operators, unless they surveyed people only in these regions???

I am always sceptical about these awards. Have all the passegners that voted for Palmair, travelled on many other airlines? If not then their options are not subjective. Additionally, I would be very suprised if the seat pitch on their B737s is bettered only by Air New Zealand. Surely the old 737-200s have 130 seats; in which case the seat pitch would be @29″ ie. No better; infact worse than many airlines.

Which? is very much a UK based publication, so its more interesting that SQ got the top spot rather than any UK airlines being in at all.

Wow! Well done to Jet2! 😀 A ‘Loco’ picking up 3rd, do they even offer any kind of on-board service you would associate with SQ or BA for example?
