In the recent Flight International there is a short article about the converted 747LCF for the transport of 787 parts. (The picture below is scanned from that article, the other one is from Boeing). As you can see, they rip open the tail! That is structurally challenging I guess. Seems like they didn’t want to relocate the cockpit like Airbus did on the A300-300ST.
