Yes, you read the title correctly! One NIMBY has managed to file 63.570 complaints in one year! That means that on average this person filed 174 complaints per day!
To put this in perspective, Schiphol handles roughly 395.000 movements per year. So this person filed a complaint on 16% of all flights from Schiphol!
To add insult to injury, this person does not even live all that near to Schiphol. He lives 25km away in Velsen-Zuid! He does live close to heavy steel industry though (Corus). The tiny village lies next to the A22 motorway, so he can not live further away than 1000m from the motorway!
This is one of the results from the annual complaints report that the CROS publishes. The CROS is an organization that is used to control the use of Schiphol airport. It has representatives from Schiphol, local boroughs, provincial representatives, the mayor Dutch airlines and ATC. One of its main tasks is to take on complaints from locals and take measures to make Schiphol a more friendly neighbour.
A total of 714.009 complaints have been made. This means that the “SUPER-NIMBY” made nine percent (9%!!!) of all complaints made in 2004!

I do not mind if a person complains about planes. I can even perfectly understand it in some cases, for instance some of the older generation planes and cargo haulers. But this is nonsense! How can he possibly expect to be taken seriously when he files a complaint at every plane that flies over his house? Cause that must be the situation considering there are 6 runways (not to mention that he lives quite far away from the airport so planes should be rather high anyway).
A person like this totally destroys the system. How can we possibly determine where problems are worst when there is a ****** like him messing up the stats? It is very unfortunate that the CROS is mandated to list all complaints, even when they come from this SUPER-NIMBY.
