Why is it that the USA is able to keep types like the Lockheed Constellation flying, DC4s etc, Yet here in the U.K. we have a Vanguard parked up at Brooklands, A bristol Britannia at Kemble, supposedly a partially airworthy comet somewhere here…..and what about the Viscount ?? It seems that when British World ( BAF ) retired their Final Viscounts, at least 3 flew south to Africa, one of which was G-APEY, as far as I am aware, this aircraft is stored in flying condition. It is sad that this fine aircraft could not be purchased, flown back to the U.K and kept in flying condition.
Alot of money would be needed, but I am sure that many of you reading this would agree that it would be nice to keep some of our famous old aircraft flying.
it wont be too long before we wave goodbye to the VC10. I strongly beleive that at least 1 example of this fine aircraft should be kept airworthy, and I also think we should try and get 1 airworthy Viscount back on these shores.
anyone agree ?
