Fuel consumption

I am interested in learning how much fuel various planes use up.

First I should say I know next to nothing about commercial aviation so please be nice to the newbie.

Say a 767 takes off from New York and lands in Europe. How many dollars worth of fuel did it use up? How many litres?

Also I heard Boeing is developing a new plane called the 7E7 which will have vastly improved fuel consumption than any other airliner. How will they make it use so much less fuel, and do any non-American companies have a competitor to the 7E7?

Which types of planes use the least amount of fuel (I’m not talking only about airliners but any kidn of plane), and how much fuel do they use?
