A question for the more mature readers.

Can anyone give a rough idea of dates as to when jet airliners such as the 707, DC-8, Convairs and those of that era began to really displace their prop powered counterparts such as the Constellation, Electra and DC-6 ?

Also when would you describe as the overlap era when either type was as common as the other at your average municipal airport ?

It’s a long story so I won’t explain why I’m asking.
