Ah yes so China is just so much more worthy than India. Its got nothing to do with the Chinese leadership having the luxury of not having to convince the electorate to give them their jobs again every few years or having to deal with the media doing exposes on this failed project or that kickbacks scandal. This is painfully childish. Could we forget the aimless point scoring and direct discussions into areas other than those that allow respective nationalists to get their rocks off. Some members were already trying to stop things and salvage something from this thread that was admitedly doomed as soon as the first poster cut loose on his keyboard. But no you just had dip back in for the last word.

Daniel

first…I not trying to pick a fight here.

But Daniel you have to keep in mind that the PRC government is elected. The people’s congress is elected and so are many other important positions with the government including the premiere. Now if you want to comment that these elections are phony or rigged than that’s your opinion on Chinese politics. To some degree I agree with you but going so far as to say the government can actually cover up their failures is just simply your lack of knowledge of Chinese matters. Once a mojor screw up happens the media going to jump on it just like anywhere else. After that there maybe hell to pay for some people.

Looking upon current events the most striking catastrophes that have been reported by Chinese media are the chemical plant blow up in Jiling and the coal mine collapse resulting in the resignations and quite possibly criminal charges on many top level officials. Even in the three gorges dam project the media reported on forced relocation of local residents and the withholding of compensation funds.

The question you have to ask your self is where’s the cover up?
