Ryanair, Europe’s largest low fares airline, today (Monday November 22 2004) announced a brand new direct daily low fare route to Barcelona (Girona) from Blackpool Airport.
The new route will commence on March 31 2005.
Ryanair currently operates two hugely successful direct daily low fare routes from Blackpool Airport to London (two daily) and Dublin (one daily). Both routes commenced operation in May 2003.
Announcing the new route to Barcelona at Blackpool Airport today, Ryanair’s Deputy Director of Flight Operations Warwick Brady said:
“Ryanair is delighted to announce its first direct daily low fares route to Spain from Blackpool Airport.
“Since Ryanair started operations at Blackpool Airport back in May 2003, over 270,000 passengers have voted with their feet and taken advantage of Ryanair’s unbeatable fares to Dublin and London.
“This new route to Barcelona will carry over 100,000 passengers per annum, giving a further boost to local tourism, and consumers will save in excess of £10m with Ryanair’s low fares.
“This new route from Blackpool, with fares from an incredible £4.99
(excluding taxes), is available for booking right now at http://www.ryanair.com, Europe’s biggest travel website.”

Great news for Blackpool
With Gerona listed as a current route seems that LPL-GRO will be a LPL based aircraft and the GRO based aircraft that used to operate to LPL will instead operate to BLK

Was just going to post this – Great news for BLK. On Pprune it said that this meant Ryanair was going to finish its LPL-GRO, looks like it might be the case because the flight times are identical to the Liverpool route and the BLK route starts the day after the LPL route finishes for the winter. Maybe if Ryanair sets up a base at LPL, they will instead operate this flight using an LPL based aircraft ?
Tom – As far as I know, BLK has the Three Ryanair routes (STN,DUB,GRO) and other than that just the odd charter. The runway length is 6001 feet.
