Two short news articles:
Air Europa:
It seems that the inevitable thing has not been able to avoid with Air Europa and a precontract with Airbus has been signed to operate a A330-200 from February and another one from May. To be able to compete in equality of conditions to the Caribbean with other Spanish competitors and to allow for new non-stop services to China Boeing had offered 777s for the price of 767s but Air Europa feared of high landingfees and additional capacity. In addition, due to the size of the 777 engines, Boeing did not commit to have a new engine in place within 24 hours. As well the 7E7 is still quite distant. So Air Europa decided already by an MoU for ten A350s using in the interim leased A330-200s with all A350s to be in service by 2009.
Binter:
Binter Canarias is evaluating to acquire two to four A320s or similar to operate the well booked daily edge inter-island services with the aircraft to be used during the day on Canarian-Europe charter and/or scheduled flights. If the evaluations are positive, the current turboprop fleet will be reduced to 7 ATR-72s.

They are surely more fragile, then the ATRs, but having seen Binter fly they should probably use AN-32s or something.

There is something inherently wrong with the article as Sandy pointed out. Airbus would never get an MoU signed before they had announced the plane to the media. To do so would create an anti-climax and a reduced level of publicity to what they require.

I am highly skeptical of the Air Europa article.
How can they sign an MOU for a plane that is as yet not even on offer. And further more, a lot more is known about the 7E7 than the A350, so the argument of the 7E7 being too distant is rediculous.
Although it is probably true that Air Europa have signed for A330s.. I think the reasons given here are utter tosh.
