Iraqi Airways gets airbourne again…

(source Airliner World) Iraqi Airways resumed International flights in October after a 14 year break in operations.Initial routes are Baghdad to Damascus, Jordan and Dubai. The airline will initially operate a single B737-200A with a second following sometime this month. Iraqi Airways are already looking to the future by having talks to link up London and Baghdad with a B767

Any comments?

Yes, the best of luck. According to a report I read a long time ago, the technicians of Iraqi Airways who haven’t had that much to do during the last 13 years kept themselves up-to-shape by repeatedly dismantling and putting together a JT8 engine.

Wonder what has happened to the two simulators Iraqi Airways are still supposed to have – a 727-200 and a 737-200 according to the latest simulator census lists…

And think of all the Media who come and go from Iraqi – this would be easiest way as dont they currently go via Kuwait then drive across?

There will always business, governmental and diplomat travel on almost any route, especially on a service to a born-again country like Iraq.

The 737 mentioned would probably be ex-US Air 737-201 Advanced N239US? Seen here in Prague on delivery flight last month, photo by “Palo” from A.net:
