I was invited as part of a group of local aviation enthusiasts to attend a presentation by BAA at Glasgow Airport tonight. In attendance were senior BAA Glasgow figures and airport police representatives.
Essentially this was to show us in detail the airport’s expansion plans over the next ten years and then beyond and was followed by a very entertaining question and answer session.
Top marks to the often criticised BAA, for holding this event for enthusiasts, but even more praise for going on to ask us what we felt was required as enthusiasts to make our hobby more enjoyable and worthwhile?
The upshot of it is that we may now be getting a dedicated MAN style viewing area that will allow photography over the top of the fence and include refreshment facilities? We may also be getting dedicated “shooting holes” in the perimeter fencing.
I think we all got a lot out of the meeting and I would hope there will be more if they are as positive and friendly as tonight’s was?
Cheers to all who attended and organised the meeting.

I was one of the guys who arranged the meeting with BAA Glasgow, Im a bit fed up with a poster who continues to turn any positive steps at Glasgow in to a feud with Edinburgh.
If that person is so anti Glasgow why do you post on matters about Glasgow, and secondly why do you not pick the phone up and do what I did, You had a chance several months ago when the police at Edinburgh issued an invitaion to talk to them, I dont recall you bothering to make any attempt , but then again you expect us from Glasgow to do all the hard work for you
Normally I would go out of my way to help, but this guy has really sickened me by his attacks on Glasgow, you are on you own
Points taken Kevin, let’s not encourage another mud slinging contest though.

AFAIK as I know the direct rail link will be between Glasgow Central to the airport via a new spur line running from Paisley St James station. I think you might have to get off your train from Greenock Matthew and change to the airport service at St James? 🙂
I’m still not sure why this is considered the most viable option mind you. I’d have thought the old Babcock’s Engineering freight line from just east of Paisley Gilmour Street station to the airport would have been the better and least disruptive option ?

They excel at pitting one lowland airport against the other, the absence of any similar presentation for EDI confirms this. They could at least have raised EDI hopes in tandem.?

As for the presentation… well it was asked for and arranged by GLA enthusiasts. You might want to try the same at EDI?

All empty promises I’m afraid and last night sounds as if it was more of the same! 😡
Hit the nail on the head! We have been getting promises from BAA for as long as I can remember… They excel at pitting one lowland airport against the other, the absence of any similar presentation for EDI confirms this. They could at least have raised EDI hopes in tandem.?
Sour grapes? Of course not, good luck to GLAsters if they get it, if they do, you can bet EDI will be at least a decade behind. Last night sounds like pure unadulterated PR…
I’m off to Oz this weekend.. back in about 5 weeks. 😀

Fair points there, we will as the saying goes “have to wait and see”.
Although those now responsible for BAA Glasgow are not all the same people as then.

Do you know when work will start on this Ren?
More to the point will they stick to what they said and actually build a viewing area
I wouldn’t hold my breath, as a former member of the GAAEC committee we were visted by BAA a couple of years ago and all the same things were promised. At that time they told us they had £1million set aside to create a viewing park which, they said, would house a new club-room for ourselves along with family attractions. They also stated they would be accepting a 737-200 which had come to the end of its operational life, and that it would be situated on the viewing park. All empty promises I’m afraid and last night sounds as if it was more of the same! 😡

It all sounds good from a spectators point of view.
I just hope that they keep some of the money they are spending and put it to uses like, clearing ice/snow from taxiway W and the short 🙁
Keeps the little ones from flying at times.
It is good to see them thinking about the people who don’t make them money though.
