‘G-BCOE’ was the first aircraft I ever flew in but my second flight in a BAW Viscount (GLA-ABZ) was much better, those cabin windows were HUGE!

Excellent pictures Kaplan! I do like the BA viscount shots and the Dan Air 748 pic is great. Nice to see you got the scanner working again. 🙂

Calibration in the UK is done by FR Aviation/Flight Precision./Chobham leasing. I’m not sure if they solely use the Beech 200s or not though?

The Dan-air 748 brings back memories, flew on one from BHX-MAN-BHX in about 1975. Love the Heralds, always thought them nicer than the F-27’s. Grew up with Viscounts flying overhead several times a day so had a soft spot for them.

The RAF’s Andovers were longer I think and the aircraft ‘knelt’ down at the rear to allow easier unloading through the rear cargo entrance. Much in the same way as an old Citroen does.

The CAA used the 748 for testing both pilots and the approach facilities of civil airports. I remember seeing them based at Stansted. The RAF used their version (Andovers) to test the military airfield equipment.
