City airport plans £14m expansion
Bristol International Airport is to undergo a £14m programme of expansion to cope with increased numbers of flights and passengers.
The investment will see the check-in and baggage reclaim areas extended at the site in Somerset.
The airport has grown rapidly in recent years, with the number of scheduled flights increasing from 16 to 37.
Earlier this year it announced plans for daily flights to and from New York, beginning in May 2005.
Passenger numbers
It is thought the Continental Airlines service will bring in 450 new jobs.
The South West Regional Development Agency (RDA) has contributed £1.5m towards the cost of the improvements.
Airport managing director Andrew Skipp said: “With ongoing route development it is important that we cater for the needs of both business and leisure passengers and enhance the level of customer service.”
Ian Thompson of the South West RDA said: “This investment will enable Bristol International to handle further increases in passenger numbers, which in turn will help to bring long-lasting benefits for the South West region as a whole.”

Yes the airport expansion is going ahead, at the expence of the flying centre I fly from, we have had to move south side as they need the room 🙁 but the owner had a 25 year lease on the building so they had to pay him a large amount of money to move.
I can’t see the runway being extended for a very long time yet as they would have to tunnel the A38 underneath it, and there is already so much pressure from nearby residents about the noise already present which kind of cheeses me off somewhat, these people are hypocrites, these people are the very type of people who will board an aircraft to go on holiday/business which means somebody, somewhere will have to listen to the noise of the aircraft that they are flying on but dont like it if its in their own back yard, still thats life.

Good news for us down here! Actually, having said that, not good for Exeter or Plymouth. Things are looking up at Exeter though.

Good news for Bristol. Although I have only visited once, it is a thouroughly nice , welcoming Airport.
What is involved in the expansion?i.e
Larger runway
Larger terminal
More plane stands
Terminal renovation.
I would like to see a larger runway so that would mean bigger aircraft.
