having been for a ride in your 206, I’d say you’re probably going along that stretch faster than any DC-3 was… 😉

Yes that’s true !

Cheers for that,

I take it the buildings near the top of the pic is Babcocks? Coming in on Rwy 28 I’ve never noticed the cart? even though I know it’s there 😮

DME

Yes Babcock’s Engineering of Renfrew, now Babcock-Mitsubishi as seen in this recent GLA photo I took which also includes the aformentioned high rise blocks in the distance at the head of the old runway.

A little fantasy I often afford myself as I drive along there is to pretend I’m driving a DC-3 or DC-6 instead of a Peugeot 206 ! 😀

Runway too short and airport too small for future needs. There was no way of expanding it successfully owing to nearby late 60’s housing estates being developed. Those 3 high rise blocks of flats being an example. I used to live in the middle block as a kid.

They took the decision to move across to nearby Abbotsinch, the former wartime RAF station and latterly HMS Sanderling naval air station.

Cheers for that,

They had two copies in Paisley Central Library last time I looked. It could really do with a reprint or updated reprint?

I’ve got my own copy 😀 but a friend has a loan of it! 🙂

Agreed, it’s a great read, unfortunately it’s out on loan just now and it’s murder trying to get it back! 😡
