dark light

It was a year ago today…

24th October 2003, the last day of revenue service for BA’s Concorde fleet. Matthew Murray, Bmused55 and myself met up at a very busy Edinburgh Airport to take in the final visit to Scotland of an active Concorde (G-BOAE).

On that same tac, why do we erect monuments for the those soldiers that died in the world wars.

They died… Soldiers are only usefull on the battlefield, ergo by your argument they are of no further use….. why mourn them and keep monuments in their name?

The argument does not hold water. Concorde was a breakthrough in technology…. the fact there is still no replacement show you how ahead of her time she was and is, even today. To simply deny this by “getting over her” show extreme short sightedness and arrogance.

Oh cheer up lads fer fek’s sake. 😉

I was looking for a thread made by Kev35 a short while ago – reflected my current views pretty well.

Concorde is only memories now. She is never going to fly, only sit static at various places…wasting away. A once graceful airliner, meant for the skies…if it is not in the skies…what is the point of having her? None!

Indeed, harsh…but the reality is harsh – Concorde is never coming back. Afterall, it is a machine, ultimately it has met it’s end. I am not saying forget about it…but clearly wishful thinking, or actioning will never bring her back. Period!

As Allen said, I was there to see her off. I admit, like many I have a soft-spot for Concorde…but unlike some, I quickly realised that we aren’t going to see Concorde in the skies ever again…

There is no mention of putting her back into the skies here. Just people reflecting on where they were that sad but momentous day

Yes she is gone from our skies… but that does not mean we should forget or get over her.

We couldn’t just forget about it, it represented Britain and I think many of us should be proud of it!

He is right though. Concorde is not coming back no matter how many petitions are signed. We can only hope that a new SST is made in our lifetime. Chances are it will, but not anytime soon!

Doesn’t mean we have to forget about her. Her legacy shall live on! 🙂

Some nice photos of Concorde there I especially liked the one with the Forth Road Bridge in the background and the pilot holding the St Andrews flag a fitting tribute to concordes end here in Scotland.

I agree, it’s the new background now. 😉
