CO are confirmed to put a 757 on the route as expected but are charging £650 return for the pleasure of the flight. I can get £530 odd via LHR and which obviously covers ALOT more distance.
NI flying public love low fares and thats why the ONLY (bar the 1 bmi route) flights we have are Loco Cost! This wont go down as well as CO have hoped!

I phoned twice for the two set of dates to make sure it wasnt a disgruntelled call centre person who quotes me sky high out of badness!
And just why would they be doing that? Their purpose is to drum up business, not push it away for goodness sake.

Well the amount CO quoted me for 2 seperate rtn flights in june and september were both £650 including tax
Listen they only just announced the bleeding route!
The online booking system probably isn’t geared up for it properly yet!

I would call anything around £299 or under locost and that was a view shared by alot of people i spoke to today
Which is exactly the point I was making before. The existing routing (via LGW or BHX, using Flybe as a feeder) can be had for around £280-£300. Why would CO offer a fare of £650 on a direct BFS-EWR service? They wouldn’t get the takers, when it’s possible to drive to DUB from Belfast and get an Aer Lingus flight into JFK for a similar price as now (or even less), or to route via BHX, MAN or LGW for pretty much the same money?

I think it is unfair to compare Belfast passengers “love” of Low Cost airlines to a Transatlantic operation. “Low Cost” doesn’t really exist across the pond, and I don’t think the people of Northern Ireland will be comparing “low cost” shorthaul with “high cost” long haul.
Indeed.
If you want to fly trans pond, you will not do so at low cost. Zoom come close but its still not low cost.
I’m willing to bet the convenience of a stateside destination at their doorstep will entice the people to fly direct with CO rather than go to LHR first… which as I said is not the most user friendly airport in the world
