Weren’t you at the airliners.net AMS meet last week? Cause I noticed someone bragging in the LHS about that photo being on that DVD! 😀
Nope, and if someone was bragging it about they were talking b*llocks. :p

That was a case of having the right format at the right time. The DVD producer needed a “head on” shot of a “Soviet Airliner”. He trawled the usual websites and found mine which fitted the dimensions of your average DVD cover.
I won’t be retiring on the proceeds needless to say. 😀

I know Ren Frew has a photograph of his Balkan Holidays Tu-154 on the front of an aviation DVD. I think he got a free DVD, too! :p

To be in the right place, at the right time.
Look at the Concorde crash back in July 2000 and how many people saw the amateur footage (not a photo, I know) of the blazing Concorde leaving Charles de Gaulle. If this would have been a photograph, it would have been just as popular and made you some money.

What are some ways you can earn money with your aircarft photos?
The best way is to become a freelance writer.
Illustrative submissions with your own pics is perhaps more successful than submitting pics alone.
You get more for the pics than you do from the copy.!
Here’s a once in a lifetime shot from Gary Watt, I doubt Gary ‘earned’ much from this.

I’d love to make money with my photos but they are not good quality at the moment.

Get to see an Olympic Airways A340 at Stansted after a diversion from a bomb scare, and hope that the local newspaper are interested
Hate to be a bearer of bad news, but your local newspaper will have probably got a similar picture from the Press Association who usually have tip offs about this sort of thing – same way as there pics of the A340 departing STN today. What you need is a tip-off – something that not many people are going to know about – This is a good example, HERE not that its made me any money though.

Place the photos somewhere where intersted people can see them. JP.net and A.net are the most important ones. Then if you are lucky you get approached by a publisher that wants to use your photo(s).
Another way is to send photos to KEY to print in their mags. They charge a fixed rate, though I am not sure what. I never quite figured out to whom I should send them, otherwise I would have send a few newsworthy shots myself in the past. Shame really.
