The rumours are flying around regarding fleet operations. I have basically established that nothing is concrete and no-one really seems to know the whole truth 😉

The story regarding GB Airways is slightly twisted, BA have around 99 options with Airbus for the A3** series, and GB Airways will be taking 3 of these options. They are not taking the initial batch of 10 A321s designated for BA.

Bigjet,

The 737 you saw was G-DOCE, on its way to GLA, complete with yours truly onboard (sitting at door 1L for take-off naturally), having arrived at LHR the day before, nightstopping in EDI, and operating another EDI before my flight.

We will have one 737 at LHR for the foreseeable future, as Wys says covering for a broken ‘bus. The specific aircraft will change from time to time, and will be operated on domestic services only, with LGW flight crew and LHR cabin crew.

On the subject of 321s, an Airbus skipper told me the other day that 3 of the 10 aircraft on order will be going to GB Airways instead, because the 319s that were to go to LGW will not be going after all. Heard anything about that MarkL?

Meanwhile I have my first 321 flight on my roster, an AMS the day the first aircraft goes into service.

1L.

Nope, LIS was 747/757/767 all summer. 737s were used on the short EU routes, BRU, AMS, etc. My Dad was on the last one into LHR, from BRU 😉

The 747s was only used for a few days during Euro 2004. Most flights in July/August operated by 320/757.

Bigjet,

The spotted 737 was probably G-DOCH as that hasn’t been operating at LGW for a few days and it is still painted in the “Grand Union” cols. See link below

I think you’ve summed it up Matthew, its very poor performance in comparison to the 757.

Im an Airbus fan but I do dislike the A321.If my memory serves me correctly LHR-LIS was one of the last routes to be served by 737 from LHR.

OneLeft has just been retrained on the 737 as they are operating one out of LHR for the forseeable future. It is making up for being short of one minibus at the moment.

British Airways will be leasing an Iberia A320 01 Oct – 31 Nov 04 to operate LHR/MAD flights

I can only see it lasting for a few weeks, it will be very awkward to sustain for long. The plan is also only for one 737.

Good. Lets hope more 734s are seconded to LHR, anything to give people an alternative to the soon to be, awful 321.

Largely yes. Currently there is a Flightline 737 in doing the routes. I still don’t understand quite why they need this 737 from LGW considering the 321s start arriving next month?

Would that be on UK domestic routes then ?
