Oh so many airlines gone but not forgotten. My favourite charter airlines like Orion, Air Europe and DanAir as well as old names like Sabena, Swissair and TWA. If I could fetch you back I would.
How I would love for you all to make a comeback. No doubt Dan Air would still be operating those 727s and Bac1-11s alongside some new Boeings and my beloved Orion would be flying new Airbuses and flying the charter flag of quality.
Rest in peace, my beloved airlines. You all have a place in my heart!

Blimey, a nostalgia thread that is so old that reading it is nostalgic itself 😉
Gimmie Dan-Air and Air UK. Dan-Air for keeping the Comets going for longer than they would have otherwise done. Never flew in one, dammit. Got my first flight deck ride with them on a 727, MAN-PMI. Also got an upgrade to business class on a 1-11 back from Vienna once. Didn’t actually make much difference but we loved it at the time.
Air UK were another fine airline that were ultimately swallowed up by KLM which was a shame as they were a useful competitor to BA/BMA in the domestic market. Flew GLA-STN on numerous occasions befor the locos priced them out of the market and into the arms of their Dutch sugar daddy. 🙁

when a 747 CP Air stop-over to Iqaluit during the 80s, i remember the orange colors. yeah, i think their airlines were painted in orange colors?
anyways, i remember the blue colors from Nordair back then, from the early 737 models. that used to be one of the airlines back then with Iqaluit.

My answer is in my avatar.
The original National Airlines (1934-1980).
Of course, I’m biased. My father worked for National (JFK & LGA) from 1969 thru to their merger with Pan Am in 1980.
As a child I would get excited at the “Fly Me I’m (insert comely stewardess’s name here)” commercials simply because I knew my father worked for the airline. I didn’t appreciate the non-politically correct nature of the commercials until I grew a little bit older. 😀
I was even fortunate enough to go on an employee’s tour on one of National’s two brand new 747s (“Jacqueline” & “Patricia” which they operated briefly in the early-70s) as they were brought into service.

The Sun King livery is still one of the best I have ever seen on an airliner.

If I could bring back any airlines, it would have to be:
BRITANNIA – I cant remember the flights themselves because I was quite young and did not have as much interest in aviation then as I do now, but I flew with them quite a few times and loved them!:D
EUJET – I never flown on this now defunct airline, but I strongly believe Kent International (Manston) Airport has got potential as an airport, and it was a shame that this particular airline failed.
Also, if anyone wishes to reminise over the uniforms of past airlines, or current airlines that have changed their uniforms, take a look at this site that I found whilst browsing the Internet: http://www.uniformfreak.com

Steve,
If you come back to Newcastle or Leeds, you may still fly on Ansett equipment.
Once flew from Sidney to I think it was Hong Kong with Ansett on a 762.
I was in business class and they actually had a chef on board with the full outfit and tall white hat to boot.
Happy times.
