BA to LAGOS

One for you, Mark L!!

Looking at the BAA LGW deps yesterday ,I noticed that an entry showed 15.30 BA 2077 LAGOS.Nothing was written to the right of the entry and the time had passed 15.30.

Is this a flight no for a future flight from LGW to LOS,meaning a move from LHR maybe??????????

Danairboy,

Do you seriously think BA or any other airline would stop flying to a destination if it made money? Or put a smaller aircraft onto a route if it could sell the seats on a bigger one profitably?

A full aeroplane is not necessarily a profitable one, as has been discussed in many a thread on this forum.

You could argue that placing a smaller aircraft onto a route in a bid to make it viable demonstrates a commitment to flying to that place, and a determination to stay on a route.

Besides which, why does a smaller aircraft represent a downgrading of a service? If I fly out to Boston on a Virgin B747 and come back on a Virgin A340, I see no difference in the service. It is simply a question of matching aircraft and capacity to the demand for the route.

Well, take on Abidjan then and Banjul/Freetown. Also get back on Lilolngwe route and stop sending 763s to Lusaka when the market will take a 744.

BA sees Africa as South Africa and Kenya.

Lusaka is the only example I can think of where aircraft types have been downgraded. In the last season Nairobi has been supplemented by twice daily flights on 3 days of the week, and Cape Town is receiving a boost in frequencies from this winter. Luandas frequencies are also increasing.

I would say the opposite, BA loves flying to Africa as it makes the airline so much easy money.

BA hates flying to Africa it seems, even when routes are full and very profitable, like to Nigeria. Its constant downgrading of African flights is becoming embarassing. Lusaka being the perfect example. If they put any smaller aircraft on that route they will be sending an Avro next!

New routes etc were announced today, only capacity increases at LHR re Long Haul, Lagos is staying put for at least another season.

Thanks for the reply.

Seems strange though,as the flight no when it was a 747 from LGW a couple of years ago was BA 2075.!

could it have been a Charter? BA’s current flights to the Nigerian Capital is a daily 744 service from LHR, although obviously any future move to LGW would mean downsizing the aircraft, as no 744’s are based at Gatwick.
