Good to see the A380 order list growing.
Quite pleased about the A345 as well.

While toying with the idea of modifying the 747-400 to carry more passengers, Boeing said that its own projections indicate that there is no market for superjumbos, and that increasing demand for point-to-point service would lead airlines to instead seek smaller, faster aircraft.

Boeing, having said there’s no market for the A380, unveils its Sonic Cruiser proposal. Low interest from airlines kills it in 2002.

I’m not argueing with THAT particular quote, that one I think is quite recent, being made on Boeings part with the benefit of hindsight! But I also say again that Boeing HAS in the past claimed that in their opinion there is no market for an aircraft of the A380s size! Lets not fall out on this point because it is a fact. Boeings PR empire has had to modify its stance over time just as AIs has also had to do. Lets at least be reasonable enough to admit that much, I don’t think that beistrich is totally wrong on this one.

Sandy, Boeing have said many times in many differing ways that they feel there is no market for the A380, but then they would say that would’nt they.
But there does appear to be one after all, just as there appears to be same for the 7E7. IMO I still think that the continueing slot restrictions and overall congestion will vindicate AIs decision. But I also think that there is a place in the scheme of things for the Boeing product. How big each place is for the two products is yet to be seen, and I think that until we see some stability returning to the fuel markets and the industry in general then all bets could be off.
Once again, I quote:
He said that we will not be building a direct competitor to the A380; there’s just not enough market
Another line was Boeing sees a market for a few hundred A380s not the 1,500 Airbus beleive in.

yeah i forgot you think all orders are only jokes, the A380 will not fly and aliens will come to buy boeing-planes :p
btw: Boeing did say there ist no market for such a big plane.
Boeing did NOT say that beistrich!

Not at all.
here is an extract from a meeting with Boeings vice CEO. Pay close attention to the line in BOLD:
He said first and foremost that the 747Adv (747-800X) will be the next project for Boeing. (It’s confirmed, the 747-Advanced is going ahead!!! ) It will be an updated 747 that will incorporate 7E7 technologies, specifically the Trent 1000 engines and the increased use of composites. He also said that it may get a slight stretch to handle just a few more passengers. He said that we will not be building a direct competitor to the A380; there’s just not enough market. What we’re going to be building is a direct 747 replacement for the approximately 1,300 747’s flying today, as well as filling the niche between the existing 747 and the A380; as most airlines may not need the upguage in capacity to jump to the A380

because they are the competition. 🙂
By: beistrich - 28th August 2004 at 15:10
Not a BIG ENOUGH market to warrant them building a direct competitor.
beistrich, remember that orders mean absolutely nothing until delivereis have taken place and the bird has to prove itself in service. Then we’ll see how it fares.

Boeing say there are no market for the A380
I wonder why there are nearly every month orders for this bird 😀

the purple strip going down the side is far to thick! not nice! definatly in need of new colours. Maybe Nasir could do them?

I cannot imagine what the bland Thai colours will look like on such a huge aircraft.
Not the biggest of images, but here’s Airbus’ impression:

Thai is a growing airline…the A380s should do good to them. But i can imagine Thai filling up the 380 with seats to the max, which in any aircraft is not a pretty site.
By: MSR777 - 27th August 2004 at 23:26
Great news! I don’t dislike the current Thai livery but perhaps the introduction of the A380 will be a good time to revise/replace it.

As for the A340s, I thought this was announced some time ago.
