Just a temporary goodbye for a week from myself and Wingflaps2 as we’re off to SFO to commiserate my 30th birthday tomorrow. We cannot wait to get on that beastie of a plane. This will be Wingflaps’ first longhaul trip and the first time on a B747 for him.
I’ll see what I can do about getting some aircraft snapped at SFO, if there is any room left on my memory cards!
No doubt, a trip report will be filed once we return.
Have a nice week y’all! ๐

Of course not ! none had PTVs… And, the food served on Thai was just horrible… Dried rice isn’t what I’d call a nice meal, but oh well…
Those ceiling TVs are not good nor bad: you might get pain in your neck watching them, or be way too far to see correctly. But the suality is better than the projectors most 767 have, though.
Regarding the legroom, I can’t complain on the Thai flight, the seat next to mine was empty, so that was no concern.

I can assure you that i flew FRA – SIN and BKK – FRA on LH 744s, and they had no PTVs… I won’t even talk about Thai’s 743…
Does any 747-300 have PTVs in the economy cabin? I don’t think so.
There is nothing special about these televisions anyway. The few times I’ve had one, the entertainment is crap at its best.
Thai may not offer PTVs like British Airways and Virgin etc, but one thing they do offer is a great deal more legroom – 34 inches with Thai compared to just 31 inches with British Airways… blimey! I’d rather be comfortable than entertained for a few hours.

Seems Duesseldwarf is flying VS who will probably put a new B744 on with the excellent new IFE with huge screens etc.

That’s LH’s IFE for you! BA’s and VS’s 744 all have PTVs – BAs have approx 16 TV channels and 10 audio channels to choose from, though only games in World Traveller Plus.
Have a great time in the States.

BA and VS both have PTVs fitted as standard on their 747s.
I thin qantas also do too. I know LH have.
If I were ever to go on a 747, BA or VS would be the likely operators.I don’t know who you fly with.
Besides the 747 still has prestige about it. I want a slice of that. LOL
Now that I think about it.. I’ve been invited to a wedding in San fransisco next June. Theres my chance ๐

Hey. If you’re on Bayshore at SFO on Sunday, look out for a guy with a D60 and a big Canon L series zoom lens – it might just be me!!!

Bmused55,
Don’t get overexcited about 747s… The 400 are ok, albeit the in flight entertainment isn’t the best (small TVs at the rooftop usually).
You really feel like cattle inside. It is just way too crowded ! If you manage to get a seat just aft of the wing, it is nice to see, but apart of that… Nothing spectacular.
