A Ukrainian cargo aircraft is blocked at the military airport of Melsbroek in Belgium since Wednesday. A bailiff and the federal police seized the aircraft. 21 crew members are on board. The crew of the Antonov 124 refuses to leave the plane and are hiding in the plane. It is believed that the HQ in Kiev told them to do that.
The Ukrainian aircraft is chartered by the Belgian army to transport material to the Belgian troups in Afghanistan.
The aircraft is involved in an international financial dispute. Many parties are involved. A court in in Sweden asked to seize the aircraft, because Ukraine has a debt of over 40 million dollar with a company from Cyprus.
Aircraft of the same company is blocked in Canada
In canda, an aircraft of the same company is still grounded after the seizure of it, waiting for it’s verdict.
The aircraft was blocked in june 2003 atr Goose Bay in Labrador, in the northeast of Canada. All this is the result of an international financial dispute between the Canadian company TMR Energy and the Ukrainian Foundation for State goods.
I hope my translation is ok…

Myria is a sole example with a second example about 70% built in Kiev awaiting funds to be completed, although if 073 gets nailed it’s not looking good with the loss of revenue!!
MYRIA
It’s Mriya, not Myria. It’s the Ukrainian word for dream.

The An124 and An225 are very high on my list to photograph sometime.
I believe the An 225 is a very rare bird as only one or two were ever built, can anyone verify this?

You should have gone to Maastricht then. A Wolga-Dnepr An-124 was chained there from 1998 to 2001. It ended up being bought by Air Foyle.

Sorry if I sounded selfish with my post, I am just such a big fan of the Antonov (and also the Ilyushin) heavies, I would hate to see any of them unable to fly and making losses. I was just hoping for a chance to get a photo of one of my favourite aircraft.

Antonov Design Bureau the operator of the aircraft will NOT be shutdown just because of the possible loss of this aircraft as they do have other assets!!! As I understand it the aircraft is parked on a remote stand at BRU and the crew are still inside thereby thwarting the offical trying to serve the impounding order..
The crew that are on board would be quite capable of flying the aircraft to wherever after suitable crewrest without resorting to another crew being flown in from Kiev or wherever ADB chose to send the aircraft. The flight deck crew have probably moved to the rearcrew compartment where they can take rest in the fitted rest areas and be in a suitable condition to fly the aircraft out of Brussels.
Comet I hope the aircraft is NOT in BRU on the the 6th Sept as I think the loss in revenuee to this airframe would make even your eyes water!!

That is very likely as they are probably now succeeding in seizing their assets. An other crew will have to be found to fly the aircraft back to Ukraine as the company will probably be shut down. The Ukrainian government is a bit in trouble now.

I’d already seen this on another piece of sh*t aviation forum (not the one mentioned in the link above I hasten to add!)
As I am a big fan of that particular aircraft, I can only say that I hope it is still in BRU on 6th September and that I can see it again. It is a superb aircraft and I have seen it twice before in MAN.
