Some 110 people on an Air Guinea flight from Sierra Leone escaped with nothing more than minor injuries after their aircraft ditched into a swamp as it tried to take off, an airport official said on Thursday.
The Boeing 737 had just left the ground at Lungi Airport in Sierra Leone’s capital Freetown on Wednesday when it lurched into a swamp three miles from the runway, leaving one wing partly submerged in mud.
“A combined team of airport fire and security services quickly moved to the scene and helped to save the passengers and crew,” said airport spokesman Mohamed Swarray.
Sierra Leone’s civil aviation authority said the cause of the crash was not yet known. Hospital officials said about 50 of the passengers were treated for shock and minor injuries.
Africa’s poorly maintained airlines are prone to accidents. Three planes crashed into the ground shortly after takeoff around the continent last year.

Not quite.
that plane hit the swamp almost vertically nose down and at over 400mph, a totaly unsurvivable impact.
When that happens, you don’t find bits no bigger than a finger nail.

They could have survived the crash but been eaten by a crocodile during the evacuation process. 🙁
just proves that such an event is survivable.
But what irony that would be, survive a ditching in an airliner and get chomped by crocs LOL
