ALASTAIR DALTON
TRANSPORT CORRESPONDENTSCOTLAND is in line for two new air links to Germany that could
provide a major boost for its second most important source of
foreign tourists.Germanwings is considering launching flights between Edinburgh and
Stuttgart, while Inverness airport is in talks with another airline
planning a German route next spring. The no-frills offshoot of Lufthansa said its Edinburgh-Cologne route
was one of its best-performing last month. It now plans a link to
its second German base. Dr Andreas Bierwirth, its deputy managing
director, said: “We are thinking about Edinburgh-Stuttgart for next
summer. Scotland is one of our key markets and our target is to be
the number one low-cost airline between Scotland and Germany.”Angela Paterson, VisitScotlandโs assistant marketing manager for
Germany, said: “Germany remains our second most important overseas
market after the US with 175,000 visits in 2003 – so direct flights
are important for the continued growth of the market.”
Good news. ๐ This particular article mentions nothing of bmi regional apparently re-launching EDI-MUC though. No mention of a German link for GLA either.

No chance of BA doing a North America flight from Scotland, they only did GLA-JFK in the early 90’s to jump on the bandwagon. Slightly embarrasing that no British airline does scheduled North American services from Scottish Airports don’t you think?
I see a niche for Bmi somewhere up here to be honest.

I’m still thinking BA might be involved somewhere. ๐
BA operating a direct flight overseas from anywhere other than london? is it possible?
Theres a reason why some call them London airways ๐

Hadn’t heard who was rumoured. If that is true, I am surprised.

I believe BA might be upping the EDI-LHR freq to 13
daily instead of the present 12…?Another rumour suggest a possible 2nd USA carrier eager
to emulate CO’s EDI success.? ๐ฎ
Just what I have read too. ๐
