my point exactly, I think the most growth will be in the north. I think that MAN will attract the most people, so why little loco’s there. At LGW you have FR, U2, WW, soon Helvetic, ZB, Germanwings for example and LTN has FR, U2, Wizz, ZB, Helios?

thomsonfly could fill a gap in the market at Doncaster (or whatever its going to be called) if it flies the right routes. As demonstrated in the south people are less willing to travel to the airports where there is an even spread (LGW, STN , LTN) of airlines.

Thomsonfly seems like it will offer similar services from DSA as those from CVT in the next couple of years. Surely there is also potential for a loco at HUY?

yeah, but what about:

Wizz Air
Helvetic – soon to be LGW
Norwegian
Sky Europe
Air Berlin
EU JET – MSE

all go into the south east + the ones you have already said

Yep ThomsonFly coming along as well, of course already operating at Coventry.

You’ve got to remember, these airports you are talking about: The likes of LBA,LPL,MME, dont have very big terminal buildings, and cant handle as many pax as many airports in the south.

I actually think there are enough locos in the north now.

In the south also we have GB Airways from LGW – Tenerife North and BY has also tried the route. BD also had the route from LHR, but couldnt make a profit because they could only do it with a 321, when they really nedded a 320.

The Funchal route currently is operated by a TAP 321 to LHR, but the route needs more capasity.

Hope that claifies my points, thanks,

Ashley

you know what I mean:

V-BIRD/HLX – very limited (no competition to ZB)
bmibaby – very diorganised, some competition on southern spain routes.
ryanair – Dublin only

In the south here we have easyjet, monarch, ryanair, flybe, gb airways all offering low cost (ish) flights to southern spain or canaries. MAN doesnt seem to have that capasity, maybe a UK low cost airline at manchester would be good to cover these routes bmibaby against ZB?

MYT 757’s are just a roumer I have heard to cover gaps predicted in the schdule (covering planes transfered to ZB)

Less locos at MAN! BMi Baby,Ryanair,V-BIRD and Hapag Lloyd Express to name a few!

Im not sure about the scheduled demand for places like TFN and Funchal really.

Where did you hear about them getting MYT 757s as cover? That would really surprise me.

and what about the possibilty of winter routes to the alps. The A330’s could also be used on trips to the caribbean and new york/rockies?

From what I know they have no more planes on order as all of the new 321’s ave been delivered, but I think they are interested in My Travels 757’s for a short term solution. I would think that with all this expansion the chater routes are going to be phased out, getting rid of the A300’s. I think that Monarch need a northern base in scotland for scheduled routes, like edinburgh flying to Tenerife, Malaga, Gibraltar, etc…

I would also like to see them get some newer planes (mixture of 320/321) to update the 757’s which are really old. Having been with them many times on the LTN-TFS route, a 319 would be far too small, especially in the summer when a 321 is packed out everyday.

I think possibiles could include: (from LTN)

Ibiza
Tenerife North (320)
Funchal / Maderia
Murcia
Monastir (no scheduled flights – huge market?)

LGW

Tenerife South / North
Gran Canaria
Ibiza
Larnaca
Funchal / Maderia
Almeria

EDI

Tenerife South
Lanzarote
Malaga
Palma
Murcia
Almeria
Faro
Gibraltar

MAN

I would like to see them operating larger aircraft especailly for the TFS flights on Tues and Friday which are the main days of operation in Tenerife. Last year MON operated a chater flight to TFS with a 330, this has now switched to ZB and is now a 320 flight, where has the extra capasity gone?

I think that they could also be more daring at MAN as there are less LCC’s there and could open up routes like:

Lisbon
Prague
Madrid
Nice
Rome
Milan
Oporto
Palermo
Heraklion
Athens
Paphos
Monastir

That is amazing that EZY hasnt started PRG from LTN, its such a popular place!

Hope they do prove succesful, and the frequencies increase, MON got any more a/c on order or due to be delivered?

I think LCA would work very well, but their is a fair bit of competition from Helios isnt there?

They are only once a week because it is the old charter routes having a flight number change. It is not an additional flight to the Monarch flying programme, just means it looks like ZB are expanding.

Like I said, two new ZB routes – despite not being an increase overall in the Monarch flying schedule. Yes, it is a case of dropped from MON programme, picked up by ZB – still two new ZB routes in my eyes.. As Monarch’s fleet has barely grown in the last 5 years, but the ZB routes have increased 4 or 5 fold in the same period of time – it stands to reason that all of ZB’s expansion had come as a result of the charter programme’s reduction, doesn’t it? 😉

Tom – you never know, if the routes prove to be worthy of an increased frequency, we may well increase it. Personally, I don’t think ACE could justify more than twice a week max, but I do think that LPA has the potential for three or four flights per week. I also think that MAN and LGW could hold their own on the same destinations being served from both, with similar frequencies. I also think MAN/LCA, MAN/MJV (Murcia),LTN/LCA, LTN/LIS, LTN/MJV, LGW/TFS and LGW/MJV would fit in to the ZB operation. A few gaps could be filled in before the EZY’s of this world make a killing on them (LCA and TFS aside). I also cannot believe that no-one has even tried LTN/PRG yet. PRG is so popular these days, LTN and LPL must be the only airports in the UK that have an LCC based, with no PRG route. I would love to see ZB try something daring like LIS or PRG – more of a move into the city break market as well as our ‘traditional’ routes.
