Well, it is finally airshow season!
What I want to know is what is the best commercial aircraft that has been at an airshow you have been to flying or on static display, include a picture if you have one!
I think for me it was last years RIAT and a BA B744 was on static and flying it would have to be the Air Tanker A33o
what about you!
😉

yeah the VC-10 is a great airshow piece, but sadly now there are only military ones in the UK.
I did enjoy the Air Atlantique DC-6 display last year at Biggin hill, was a great aircraft to watch.

Great photos everyone,
skymonster, Very sorry for the confusion!

Do’es anyone remember the Constellation at Biggin Hill, either in the late 70’s or early 80’s that blew an engine during it’s display, from memory it was flying from LGW & i think it was registered N7777G???????.
Propliner’s will alway’s be BEST.
But for mdern airliner’s at an airshow it has to be Airbus every time, the first time i saw the A300 FBW at Farnbourgh it amazed me with it’s high angle of attack and slow speed.

Anyone got a photo of the Air Zimbabwe 707 which made a very, very low flyby at an airshow in South Africa some years ago?
By: Ren Frew - 18th July 2004 at 13:56
I remember a Laker Airways B707 doing a quite literally hair-raising display at a Biggin Hill Airshow during the 1970s.
Likewise I recall a Northwest Orient 742 doing similar at the Scottish International Airshow at PIK around 1983 or so ?
I wish they’d bring that show back, it was great. 😮

Which Canadair did you go back to Stockholm on? I may have a picture of it. In any case, hope to see you next year! 😀

D-ACLG, LH5224. The one farthest away in this photo – I actually discovered I had a photo of it just now as I browsed the folder from the airshow!

It was indeed taken on Sunday, but from the spectators’ terrace on the terminal as I was waiting to take a Canadair flight back to Stockholm. If you were there, we were probably very close!
It was a great show, much better than I could ever anticipate, and I’ll be there next year as well!
I was indeed on the spectators terrace Sunday morning – I went over to the show in the afternoon to catch a few more DC-3 pictures (and because the show side was best for sun in the afteroon), and I then returned to the terminal for my evening flight back to the UK. Which Canadair did you go back to Stockholm on? I may have a picture of it. In any case, hope to see you next year! 😀

Ah Sonnenflieger, a man after my own heart! 😉 T’was a magnificent show, and in some respects better than Coventry given that they had more DC-3s flying and they also had one or two nice geriatric jets like the DC-8 and 707. If your Electra picture was taken on the Sunday, we must have been stood pretty close together as I have a very similar picture. All being well, I’ll be there again next year if they hold the show again – well worth the trip from the UK (BA ERJ-145 from BHX).

MANAIRPORTMAD,
Sorry if my comments were taken out of context. I wasn’t doubting you at all – I know that there was a 747 at RIAT last year and as airshows go, having a 747 in attenance is rare. But as Ren Frew said, I was just having a joke because, in my personal opinion (and admittedly only my opinion!), propliners are far more interesting than 747s. Sorry for any offence I caused!
Andy
PS: The Twin Pioneer has a commercial certificate of airworthiness but doesn’t really work for a living. Its owned by Air Atlantique and they use it to fly pleasure flights and to ferry passengers from and to airshows. I had a ride on it last year – very nice one to get in the passenger flying logbook!

Skymonster,
are you saying that there wasnt a BA B744 at RIAT last year, and I know alot about planes and I know that there was a BA B744 and if anyone else went to the Royal international air tatoo last year Im sure they would have seen it! So get your facts right before you ignorantly correct me
I think you’ve missed the point, check the smilies in Skymonster’s comments. :p He’s saying, somewhat tongue in cheek that classic propliners are much better than a brand new modern 744 to view at airshows.
Yes there was defo a BA 744 at RIAT, did A330 Crazy not arrive and depart on it after all ? 😀

BA 747??? 😮 The best commercial airplane at an airshow???
I can see you still have something to learn about commercial airplanes  😉
Just remember, REAL airplanes have propellers!!! 😀
Sadly no Coventry Classics this year, and possibly no Coventry Classics ever again now that the evil Boeing twins have invaded the airport 😡

Is that “Twin Pin” still actually actively flying for the test school, or just an airshow curio these days ?
