Quite a busy day, one way or another whilst waiting to snap the Top Gear shoot yesterday. Lot’s of activity at one point making PIK resemble Heathrow for a brief ten minutes or so.
There was a lot of military traffic coming and going following the recent JMC military excercises of the Scottish west coast. The miltary crews seemed to be in good spirits as they waved to the cameras and this Greyhound from the USS Enterprise, spent the day giving pleasure trips around the bay to local dignitaries and airport workers. Last week they did the same even taking some lucky souls for a trip onto the ship itself…

Fantastic photos Ren, top quality as usual! Love that Ryanair departing in the new livery (that livery has really grown on me, love it now after seeing it all day, every day for the past few months! 😀 )

Fantastic photos! That looks like a fantastic spotting spot there, very sad to the Jag Jet parked up 🙁 Have to agree with Andy, that shot of the Ryanair taking to the air is a beauty.

Great pics Ren – love the Greyhound shots and the ones from the other thread. Where did you take these from? I’m never sure where the best viewing point is down there.

Great shots Allen, certainly looked to be an interesting day at PIK yesterday. Love the shot of the Ryanair 738 taking back to the skys again… sad about the “Jag jet” though. 🙁 Would be nice if one day Ryanair put a 738 into a special livery… but i cant see it hapening.
Also nice pics of the USAF things too. 🙂

I think if you look closely again at that other picture Sandy, you can see the top of the 747’s tail, so I assume it clears ok when entering/exiting ?
I think the fact the tail logo stops abruptly at the tip gives the illusion the tail is higher up behind the door than it really is…?

Dunno Sandy, but they pushed it out later on and off it went on a job. It came out the front, there is no rear exit from that hangar. There must be a cutaway in the wall that isn’t apparent in the picture?
Interesting… I must investigate.
Fab photos love the shot of the upper door on the 744…. any more? 🙂

The Virgin 744 turned up to the approval of the gathered spotters and snappers, a smart looking Gulfstream also turned up, probably see more of these when the Open Golf starts at Troon next week ?
First time I’ve ever seen the upper lounge door opened on a 747 too…

Brill photos.
How the heck did they get the 747F into that hangar! Look there is not “Cut out” at the top of the huge doorway to allow the Tail to pass through and you can clearly see the tail is taller that the doorway pictured. Is there a door on the opposite end?

Waiting for the Virgin 744 to arrive allowed time to find other things happening around the runway. A 742 of Polar Air came thundering right over my head at a spot just beside the approach lights, the Greyhound doing circuits was also an impressive overhead sight as my snapping colleague Steve found out…

As ever the main civil operator at PIK was in evidence, they always seem to land and take off in opposing directions, regradless of what the wind and the rest of the airport thinks?
Also in evidence is executioner’s row, where 732’s come to die. The Jaguar logojet has become the latest retiree to arrive at the 732 scrapyard…
