Lufthansa Cargo, EADS plan joint bid for 1 bln eur NATO freight deal – report
28/06/2004 – FRANKFURT (AFX) – Deutsche Lufthansa AG unit Lufthansa Cargo and European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co plan to create a military freight transport service and will bid for a roughly 1 bln eur NATO contract this fall, the Financial Times Deutschland reported in a prerelease of an article to appear tomorrow.
The joint venture will employ Antonov-124 aircraft and operate in NATO member states from 2005-2012, the newspaper said without citing its source.
Maintenance for the Antonovs, which can transport 120 tonnes of cargo, will occur at a facility in Dresden, it added.

Seems like the only Russian type that the western companies ever had any distinct interest in, and continue to have interest in, is the An-124.

Don’t know if there’s that 124 capacity available….all new builds are already allocated and flying aircarft are usually fully committed…unless there’s a deal with the Russian military!!
