Chinese airlines near 7E7 mega order, AVIC nabs rudder work

Hmm sounds like good news for Boeing and the 7E7. At any rate, the interest already shown for the 7E7 looks to be proving skeptics wrong

The Chinese aerospace sector will participate in the 7E7 program, it was announced yesterday, while Chinese aviation industry officials separately told ATWOnline that four and possibly six airlines will purchase up to 60 7E7-8s, with first delivery to coincide with the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

Not Signed and sealed just yet, but close.

Bhoy Your Correct, there is some confusion between the launch and first flight!
I think the 7E7 will be a huge seller for one reason…If ANA buys 50 of them and can fly them at 20% cheaper cost than JAL soon JAL must buy some to compete, I don’t think Airbus is building anything that can compete with the 7E7 on a cost per mile basis, so there will be only one show in town for a while! Take a good look at the USAF new Tanker requirements, the 767 deal is being stalled and there may be the likelihood of a 7E7 tanker for future needs…think of the fuel savings alone vis the 767…this program could be huge for Boeing.

nope, the -300 was launched in 1995, but the 777-200 was formally launched in October 1990. Rollout and first flight were, however, in 1994.

Oct. 29, 1990 The Boeing board of directors meets and gives formal approval launching into production the new 777 airplane family, including the initial A-market and B-market extended range models.

Oct. 15, 1990 United Airlines orders 34 777s and places options on 34 more. First 777 delivery is set for May 1995.

Dec. 8, 1989 The Boeing board of directors authorizes the company to issue firm offers for the 767-X (the development name for what became the 777).

Winter 1986 Boeing begins assessing the market for an airplane sized between the 767-300 and the 747-400.

Clearly, they know nothing about the 777
