Well I can’t contain myself any longer. 😎
This weekend I’m off to Cyprus, flying out to Larnaca on ZU549, a Helios Boeing 737-800.
Really looking forward to the holiday so the prospect of sun and sea (and a couple of flights) seem more than enticing.
I’ve been keeping an eye on this flight for the last few weeks and it has yet to be on time. :confused: I’ve done a bit of digging and given Helios only have 2 738s for U.K. flights (the 733 does Greek flights), it should be relatively easy to trace the previous flight. Well, on a Saturday lunchtime, Helios fly into both Luton and Gatwick. On Saturday evening, they fly to Heathrow and Newcastle. By my reckoning, the Luton flight becomes the Heathrow flight and the Gatwick one becomes ours.
So, why is the NCL flight always late. Well according to our tickets, ZU548 departs LCA at 18:55. According to the Helios website, the landing flight from Gatwick doesn’t land until 18:25!! If this is correct, then there is no wonder our flight never leaves LCA on time! Great scheduling!
Anyway, in order to wet my appetite for the flight and the holiday, can everyone post their news, views and pics of Helios in this thread? 🙂 Also, if anyone has any comments on my conclusion on why our flights always runs late…it’d be most welcome.

Looking forward to the report mate, think I remember seeing the Helios flight on the NCL arrivals board, and thinking I wonder if Pembo is on that flight?
Something very odd about the scheduling of that flight as you say, Helios are normally very reliable.

Well, I’m back.
I’ll post a full report later.
As expected, both my flights were delayed; 30 minutes outbound, 3 hours inbound. There is seriously something wrong with the schedule as this flight is delayed every week!
Helios on the whole were OK; nothing spectacular.

I also like the Helios scheme!
The cabins of their aircraft look as good as the exterior, and the 738s came fresh out of Seattle for the airline. Should be a good experience.
This is an airline I wouldn’t mind flying one day to one of my favourite holiday islands – I love the Cypriot ‘keo’ lager. 🙂

Heh, no worries LBA. The Sunrise Beach is lovely; perfect for strolling straight onto the beach and into the sea from the hotel pool. All of Protaras is cool though; I don’t know of any poor hotels/apartments. 🙂

Sunrise Beach 😮 Me and my family used to dream about staying there!
We stayed in the King Alkinoos Apartments twice (On one end of Fig Tree Bay) and the Pallini Beach Apartments once, in between the Silver Sands and Sunrise Beach if I remember rightly?

As for the Eastern flight; it was that short I didn’t think it worth doing. We did have an aborted take off on the return leg though. 😮

Hope you have a great time mate, I love Cyprus, been there 4 times where abouts are you stopping? I always stopped in either Ayia Napa or Protaras.
Hope Helios are good, i’ve heard alot of positive things about them, though never tried them out personally.
Looking forward to the report, after you never did one on your LBA Eastern flight :rolleyes:
