Good news regarding FRA!

On the civil spotters mailing list today somene posted this email response:

We are glad to inform you that the information that we will close the
visitor’s terrace in this year is not correct.

The terrace in Terminal 1 will remain open until we receive notice of
any civil works or changes from our stste’s government, with which we
are currently negotiating future conditions.

Hence, you can feel certain your plans to visit Frankfurt Airport
this year will work out fine. We look forward to welcoming you.

With kind regards

Michael Gross
Fraport AG

This doesn’t mean nothing will happen eventually, but it looks like that superb gallery will be around for a little longer 😀

I went there back in April and it was fantastic!!!

I got some of the best shots I’ve ever taken form that viewing terrace. I had the pleasure of flying on A300 D-AIAU of LH from LHR and spending two weeks in Bad Homburg with my German friend’s family. returned to LHR on LH 733 D-ABEC.
I experienced wake turbulance for the first ever time on the A300 taking off from LHR. I couldn’t stop thinking about the AA A300 from New York that crashed due to wake tubulance from a JAL 744. It turned out ok though !

But the terrace on FRA is bad anyway. Very bad for photography at least, as it facing south.

Good news I must go to Frankfurt soon.Anybody know anything about why Templehof in Berlin is closing.

They are refurbishing Schöneveld, and that airport is going to replace all other Berlin airports. So not only Templehof will close, but Tegel too. When the works are complete Schöneveld will be renamed Brandeburg International.
