By the way Barry, this is Maiden Miami, re-named Spirit of Sir Freddie, at RAF Kemble, during the scrapping process. 🙁

G-VMIA was originally named Miami Maiden before it was renamed Spirit of Sir Freddie.

Oh, that first picture! 😀 BA 742’s in the Landor livery; Virgin “No Way BA/AA” titles; Delta Tristar in Europe. That’s good vintage right there.

Could it be G-VLAX in that case a Virgin 742 ?
Although that was named “California Girl”. Can’t find anything about a Miami named 742, perhaps a short term lease ?
Oh, could be G-VMIA
I just dug this out of the bowels of A.net:

Though she was called “Queen of the Sky”
Looking not so good here:

Perhaps she was re-named. I’ve found this particular 747 was called “Spirit of Sir Freddie” (after Freddie Laker)

Thank you for the replies so far but the plane was definately a Fully painted Virgin 747-200 named Miami Maiden as we have this on Video,it is,nt clear but I believe the last two letters on the front undercarriage cover are “L A”. If this helps

Maiden Japan (747-200) was registered G-TKYO
I bet Bruce Dickinson of Astraeus / Iron Maiden would love to have flown that? “Maiden Japan” is the name of one of their early live records. :p

not quite correct.
There was a “Maiden tokyo”, reg was G-TKYO
Then “Maiden Toulouse”, reg G-VAEL, A340-300, of course, now we also have “Mystic Maiden”, reg G-VMEG, an A340-600.
“Maid Of Honour” (G-VRGN, B747-200) comes close too.Unfortunately, I cannot find a “Miami Maiden” Perhaps it was an aircraft on temporary lease and not a firm member of the VS fleet.
Your not quite correct either.
Maiden Toyko was registered G-VAIR
Maiden Japan (747-200) was registered G-TKYO
Check out the link below for more infomation 😉

I’m sorry, but the only Virgin 742 with maiden in its name was G-VIRG: “Maiden
Voyager”
