Pan Am hijacker gets 160 years Jail

Jordanian hijacker was sentenced to 160 years in prison for the 1986 hijacking of Pam Am Flight 73 in Karachi, Pakistan, the Justice Department said.
Zaid Hassan Abd Latif Safarini pleaded guilty in December to 95 charges against him, including murder of US citizens outside the United States, attempted hijacking resulting in death, hostage taking, and 76 counts of attempted murder, the department said in a statement.
As part of a plea bargain, prosecutors agreed to end their efforts to seek the death penalty while Safarini accepted the maximum prison sentence of 160 years.
Judge Emmet Sullivan formally handed down the sentence Thursday, after two days of hearings attended by more than 50 victims and family members.
At least 21 people were killed during the hijacking, including nationals of India, Mexico, Pakistan and the United States.
On September 5, 1986, Safarini and three accomplices took control of the plane at a stopover in Karachi between Bombay and New York.
The pilot and flight engineer escaped through a cockpit window, making takeoff impossible.
The hijackers demanded the release of Palestinian prisoners held in Cyprus, but opened fire after Pakistani authorities rebuffed their demands.
Those killed included two Americans. Seventy-two others were injured.
A former member of the Abu Nidal terrorist group, Safarini had already served 15 years in a Pakistani jail, was released and recaptured by Americans in September 2001.

Maybe he will get parole after 120 years … 😀

So if you murder an American outside the US you can still be brought to justice in the US. You guys should really stop prosecuting crimes committed in countries outside the US.
